Your Microsoft account is the default account for all your Microsoft services that means Skype, Xbox, One Drive as well as Outlook.  Since Microsoft is the default account type for your Outlook, this means if you cannot remember your Outlook password you can reset your Microsoft password and this will automatically change your Outlook account password too. This also means that once you change your Microsoft account password then automatically all the passwords for other services like Skype, Xbox and One Drive will change. Bearing that in mind you need to proceed with this method following the next steps.

You will be prompted to enter either your phone number or email id as per whatever you have entered when you created your Microsoft account.  After entering either your email id or phone number click on the Next icon.

Step 3:

Select the method as to how you would like to receive the one-time security code that Microsoft will send you to reset your password. You have the option of selecting either your phone number or email id to receive this one-time security code.

Step 4:

On your email or on your phone once you receive the security code enter it in the section that asks for it and then clicks on Next.

Step 5:

Now you will be able to change the Microsoft account password and you can confirm the changes by following the prompts shown on the screen.

Step 6:

With this new password you can log into your Outlook account and it should work fine.

However this method does have few drawbacks, they are:

1.    In case you have forgotten the email or phone number that you have entered for your Microsoft account then this method will not work.

2.    If you do not use Microsoft as your default type account then this method will not work.

3.    In all likelihood, it might mess up all the other Microsoft service settings.

Hence proceed with caution if you are preparing to use this method.

Before you take on any of these actions ensure that the Outlook password you are entering is not with your Caps Lock On. Check that you have spelled your password correctly. You can also use the option of clearing all the browser history and try signing in again. If all these fail then try to use either of these two methods.

Microsoft Outlook is one of the best email services out there in the market that offers active directory, compatibility, share points, organizing assets, extremely user-friendly interface that is easy to learn hence good user experience. Integration with other platforms and software, expedited workflow and such features make Outlook one of the most used email platforms by businesses.
